New personal blog “The Fancy Life”

UPDATE: This project has been put on the “back burner” for now. If it changes I’ll be sure to update this.

Hi my wife and I have started a new personal blog called “The Fancy Life“.

The reason we started it was that we enjoyed, or rather had a running joke that the things we did were very “fancy”. How does something become fancy? Just adding a tiny bit of fancy to a regular event makes the whole thing fancy in our estimation.

It will have numerous categories from travel, work, holidays, friends, fun, and of course things about how we follow the Lord Jesus and where he leads us. This could include any/all of these categories. I hope you enjoy the blog and the photos that we will post there. Please consider yourself a friend if you find it. Thanks, and bless you!

“Simple Method” = WordPress Training and Support

All about Simple Method

Hi! I’m excited to share the new project that I have joined. Marketing online is a huge (massive) field that has oodles of experts, tools, resources, and services.

As I posted a few months ago I had started doing my own website design. This led to a hook up with a couple of fine gentlemen who together now form what is called “Simple Method“. Please check out our website to get more info. The core concept is WordPress training and support, as well as information about great tools and resources, including hosting and domain management, plugins, updates, email marketing, SEO, Etc., together under one banner.

New project: “The Little House Company”

Hi! As usual, I am using this blog as a springboard in order to point the way to new projects and links of interest.

I just finished a project for a ‘Home Staging’ business called “The Little House Company”. They are based out of the Sunshine Coast area in British Columbia.

It was a pleasure to work with this client, and I am most likely doing a second project with her for a B&B.

Anyway I’m pretty satisfied with the results. You can see the page at this link: Home Staging Company British Columbia

Thanks that’s it for this post. :)

Child Theme(!) Experimentation

Hi there. Yesterday I became suddenly motivated to try and implement a “child theme” on my blog. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the concept you can read the WordPress article here (look to the first result).

To be clear, I am now using the theme ‘Elegant Grunge’; but have created a second ‘child’ theme on which I will perform any customization of theme that I may wish.

I must say it was quite straightforward to do, and I today I made my first change in the style sheet! (albeit a minor font size change…)

This is more of an exercise in the concept – I have read that it can make any theme updates less painful (so that one doesn’t lose their customization when updating the parent theme). I’m just glad to see it working.

For a great guide on creating your own child themes look here » How to make a child theme for WordPress: A pictorial introduction for beginners. Note the recommendation of using FF Firebug add-on. It’s pretty cool.
