My Sidebar Widget List

This post sort of ‘dovetails’ into my Opus of a blog posting “Wordpress Themes Widget Enabled” which I wrote based on the keyword research I had done back in the day.

I just wanted to outline some of the widgets I am using in my sidebar currently. I turned a few more on recently so you can have a look.

By the way this stuff is found in the “Presentation” section of my admin. I think it’s called “Appearance” now. My version of WordPress is a bit old like old cheese. (2.2.1). I will update it soon when I have some time. Probably not on this site at first, but on another safe domain that I don’t use to test it out.

ANYWAY!

The Widgets:

“Text” Widget

In my sidebar the first thing you will see is an “About The Author” blurb. This was put into a text widget and is first on the list.

“RSS” Widget

This is basically just a link to the URL of the RSS feed for this site. If someone were to add that URL to their RSS Reader to keep abreast on the developments of this blog, this would be one way of getting the URL. The other way is to click the little RSS symbol near or in the address bar of your web browser which should be visible when you are on this site.

“Recent Posts” Widget

You can set how many recent post titles/links you want to display here. I think I have it set to seven.

“Calendar” Widget

I thought, “why not?” Just thought I’d drop things in there to jazz it up. It seems to make bold the dates in which posts were made. Cool! :)

“Akismet” Spam Filter Widget

This is sweet, sweet thing. It has blocked nearly 3,000 spam comments from my blog. Imagine having to moderate all of that? It’s a must have. That reminds me… maybe I need to look into having a robots.txt file… Seems like I’m getting a lot of spam(?)

Categories

Standard… Shows the categories that posts have been made to, and how many. I have it set to a drop-down list right now instead of a normal list… To save space presumably. Not bad!

New themes seem to bring in more widgets. Enjoy exploring widgets for your sidebar they are really neat. I used the “w” word way too much in this post.

Testing IFRAME Tag in a post

So it seems I am able to successfully add an iframe into a post… However I am still looking into the more complex task of adding it into a theme , to add funky stuff like custom menus, neat buttons, a built in game, etc.

Should be cool! Below is a not-fitting into my post example of a menu I am working on with one of our partners Energy Solutions by PSI

By the way, if you want to do this you must enter the code in the ‘code’ tab, and then hit ’save’ without going back to visual. This is a trick to get IFRAME to work… Otherwise you will just have a blank spot where you tried to put your IFRAME content!

I took out the Iframe because it didn’t exactly fit in the post… But it works and if you have something small or you create a page to fit your post width you will be fine.  Just read the instructions :)

Technorati Claim Token

As a part of registering my blog with Technorati , they ask that I include this claim token ( W9XXCGPYVCYV ) in a post on my blog. This is why you are seeing it here. Thanks.

Another New Link

Just wanted to add a second link for a blog called “A Christian View“, found at http://achristianview.wordpress.com/. This is a second blog that I have started to share thoughts, prayers, Bible verses, etc. I wanted to link to it from my Blog to help Google find this site a little quicker!

My Current Position

http://www.dynarepsales.com in British Columbia Canada. We are involved in lighting (street, ddecorative, pathway) and represent a number of great manufacturers in Canada and the US (and abroad). My work is shifting (and broadening), and in the future this blog will hopefully showcase that stuff - and ultimately (I hope) be of more value in the process.

The other cool thing is that I have reserved http://www.dynarep.com since it is due to expire this August. Hear hear to a shorter domain name!

wow! Google Analytics!

Hey, well something must be up… because I’m back on here. I actually installed google analytics on the blog today… This was partly because I have been getting some comments and emails from people, and partly because I can’t believe I didn’t have it on here yet. I’m not sure if that makes sense… but the point is I have it on here now.

By the way it’s incredibly easy to install, which I learned from this site here: http://themeplayground.com/how-to-install-google-analytics-on-your-wordpress-blog

What could be simpler? Well, we’ll see if it actually starts collecting stats before I blow chunks over it.

I also registered with a service that has a free basic version called HitTail. http://www.hittail.com obvi. Man I’m lazy I don’t even write anchor text any more! Well baby steps.

No multi media in this post. I promise something flashy in the next one.

wordpress themes widget enabled

LOL… Ok I decided to stop being lazy and do some keyword research. Guess what I came up with that was relevant to my topic.

Yep: Wordpress Themes Widget Enabled!!!!!….Enabled.. enabled.. enabledabled.. lol.

Basically, what I’M trying to say over here is that I got the new theme up and running! For those of you who are having trouble getting your wordpress up, subscribe to my feed you will find it fun and informative…

From now on I will be posting my ignorant calls for help in the Wordpress support section right here so you can see exactly what my issues with Wordpress are. There should be enough content on this page about that to make it extremely relevant… over time.

So, I did indeed install a shitload of plugins… namely hmm let me see here. (jeez ironic I’m writing this in my scribefire [if you use firefox you should use scribefire to blog it’s cool] but I’m going to be messing around in my actual Wordpress Admin simultaneously. Goo.

Ok let me just open up another browser window here… and… POOF!

Ok… here’s the rundown of my plugins thus far, and where to get them:

Adsense-Manager

Not planning on using THIS ONE any time soon… I’m going to give it a month or three… It’s nice to see however that I am actually developing a focus for this site… I definitely plan on experimenting with this for personal and, *ahem* professional reasons. Tested it out with the default size in my widgets… doesn’t fit my column. NEXT!

All in One SEO Pack

Lazy-man… I do SEO all day (poorly, but consistently) and I haven’t been using keywords or description… Indeed this is the first post I have done with any attempt at an optimized title… Indeed. However It’s pretty standard… a lot of themes come with this. Mine didn’t… cuth it’th purty. Easy Peasy Japanesey! Just throw in your description, keywords/categorie(s), etc.

  • Note: There’s SOOO much more SEO’ing you can do to your blog than this… I’d recommend watching to start a video by Michael Wolfenheimer (something like that… ok drop the “enheimer” and try it) about “optimizing your wordpress blog for search engines”… type something like that in and his site should come up.

Again, I have been too lazy to implement any “advanced” strategies… or rather, I’ve been focussed on writing and setting up the basics. I will get to the advanced stuff and that will be extremely interesting for both of you readers! Special thanks go out to my boss and my grandfather on this one! Hah!

O-KAY… NEEEEEXXXT!!!!! This post needs some FUNK don’t you think???

“K”… Play this sukka on your fruity little computer speakers! Ok wait, it would take me too long to put up actual FUNK on this blog right now… I’ll do it tomorrow.

…Which, however, brings me to my next plugin:

podPress

This little number promises great things for me… well, good things anyway. It’s still uploading right now but it should be a good way to spice things up with a little music now and then, and maybe even some actual podcasts… I don’t know… I don’t really see the point in those things unless they’re terribly terribly calculated and “learny”, which I don’t plan to be… I’ll probably actually use this pretty sparingly except for entertainment purposes. Nevertheless… there it is. CH-CHECK IT!

K… Getting tired may not finish this list. As I said I installed a SHITload! You will most likely be none the wiser because it will be months until you the reader comes across this… and by that point this post will look like the dribble off of Stephen Hawking’s chin!!! If we could extract intelligence from that dribble and inject into my brain however we might be getting somewhere.

Zee Nexten Pluginnzeez… eeez:

cforms II

!!!!!WOOOO!!!!

This little Shlam-Shnickity-Shblammer is amazing, it not only worked, (had a friend send me a mail which arrived instantly… like the speed of faught instant…combination of fart and thought) but it actually added the “contact” button up at the top of my blog for me as well! I have no freaking idea how it did that, or how I’ll ever get anything else up there… but it did it. Kudos cforms II by… some guy. By the way the download button is really far down the page keep scrolling until your scroll wheel flies off and knocks your tooth out, then keep going using the arrow keys for a bit and you will find it.

Powered by ScribeFire.

By the way, ScribeFire (link above) is a cool way to post to your blog directly from FireFox… Useful for a quick on-the-fly post! You can go back and edit it later to add extra jazz like filling in your All in One SEO Pack info.

As for some other Widget stuff, you can see my post on my currently installed widgets and how I use them on my blog here.
