My Sidebar Widget List

This post sort of ‘dovetails’ into my blog post called “WordPress Themes Widget Enabled” which I wrote based on the keyword research I had done back in the day.

I just wanted to outline some of the widgets I am using in my sidebar currently. I turned a few more on recently so you can have a look.

By the way this stuff is found in the “Presentation” section of my admin. I think it’s called “Appearance” now. My version of WordPress is a bit old like old cheese. (2.2.1). I will update it soon when I have some time. Probably not on this site at first, but on another safe domain that I don’t use to test it out.

ANYWAY!

The Widgets:

“Text” Widget

In my sidebar the first thing you will see is an “About The Author” blurb. This was put into a text widget and is first on the list.

“RSS” Widget

This is basically just a link to the URL of the RSS feed for this site. If someone were to add that URL to their RSS Reader to keep abreast on the developments of this blog, this would be one way of getting the URL. The other way is to click the little RSS symbol near or in the address bar of your web browser which should be visible when you are on this site.

“Recent Posts” Widget

You can set how many recent post titles/links you want to display here. I think I have it set to seven.

“Calendar” Widget

I thought, “why not?” Just thought I’d drop things in there to jazz it up. It seems to make bold the dates in which posts were made. Cool! :)

“Akismet” Spam Filter Widget

This is sweet, sweet thing. It has blocked nearly 3,000 spam comments from my blog. Imagine having to moderate all of that? It’s a must have. That reminds me… maybe I need to look into having a robots.txt file… Seems like I’m getting a lot of spam(?)

Categories

Standard… Shows the categories that posts have been made to, and how many. I have it set to a drop-down list right now instead of a normal list… To save space presumably. Not bad!

New themes seem to bring in more widgets. Enjoy exploring widgets for your sidebar they are really neat. I used the “w” word way too much in this post.
