I originally created this post a long time ago when I learned that the search phrase “WordPress themes widget enabled” was a popular one (after doing some keyword research).
I’m now using a theme that corresponds well with this request for information, and so I have updated this post!
It’s ThemeShaper’s “Thematic” theme framework! It’s super search engine friendly, lightweight, and lends itself extremely well to customization by using what are called “child themes”.
Also, it has a boatload of available widget ready spaces, available in some fairly unique locations on the blog.
Of course you can put widgets in the sidebar – in fact there are two separate widget areas there. But also before or after the content of a post (or page), in the footer (three spaces for widgets there), before or after your index page, and more!
It’s really impressive and it’s got me thinking of some really quick and easy ways to add some really neat things to a blog.
So if you’re looking for a FREE WordPress theme with plenty of “Widget Enable” spaces, look no further than thematic. It’s a great place to start and finish your blog adventure.
